Get Pumped for Project Drawdown

On May 3rd, I hosted a virtual community Zoom call featuring Dr. Jonathan Foley, the Executive Director of Project Drawdown.

Project Drawdown’s mission is to help the world reach drawdown—the point in the future when levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere stop climbing and start to steadily decline, thereby halting catastrophic climate change—as quickly, safely, and equitably as possible. I was excited to share my thoughts during the ‘Mobilizing Kingston’ conversation and showcase what a great opportunity this conversation was for the Kingston community.

Dr. Foley's expertise and insights on climate change, sustainability, and natural resources were invaluable to the conversation, and provided expert insight on the importance of aligning climate investments with the best scientific guidance, while providing insights on the "Drawdown Roadmap," a science-based allocation framework developed by Project Drawdown that helps funders develop more effective climate strategies.

Takeaways

One of the key takeaways from this conversation was the importance of collective action in addressing the climate crisis both globally, and within in our own communities. Dr. Foley emphasized the need for partnerships across sectors and the importance of engaging individuals and communities in addressing the urgent need to address climate change.

Another important topic that Dr. Foley addressed was the role of local action in achieving a sustainable future for all. Attendees learned about the importance of emissions reductions on a personal and municipal level and gained insights into strategies for taking action in their own communities.

I was personally excited for the Kingston community to have the opportunity to engage with experts and other community members who share a passion for making positive impacts on the planet. The webinar was open to a diverse range of attendees, from high school students to accountants and community organizers, who all came together to learn and discuss ways we can work together to create a more sustainable future.

As the host, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to hear from Dr. Foley and Project Drawdown. I hope that all attendees left the talk feeling inspired and empowered to take action in their own communities because we are all capable of making a difference.

In conclusion, I believe that this talk was an important and inspiring opportunity for the Kingston community to learn from experts and engage with others who share our passion for creating a more sustainable future and learn ways both big and small that they can start their own sustainable journeys.

Together, we can make a difference and create a more sustainable future for all.
