As part of my role with the Limestone District School Board, I was invited to represent the school board on a City of Kingston-directed Working Group on Climate Action. The working group was established by Kingston City Council and brought together representatives from multiple public institutions with the goal of advancing coordinated climate action across the city.
The purpose of the working group was to involve Kingston’s major public institutions in climate action and to support collaboration around a shared approach. My role focused on participating in discussions on behalf of the school board and working alongside representatives from other municipal and public‑sector organizations to contribute to a collective process shaped by the Council’s direction.
The work required sustained collaboration across institutions, with an emphasis on coordinating input and aligning perspectives from organizations with different mandates and responsibilities. Through this process, the working group gathered ideas, experience, and institutional knowledge from its members to support the development of a more unified approach to climate action at the city level.
The outcome of this collaboration was a final report and presentation to Kingston City Council. I attended City Council and presented the findings of the working group on behalf of the group, sharing the results of our collaborative work and responding directly to the Council’s request.
This experience highlighted the importance of cross-institutional collaboration in advancing climate action and demonstrated how public institutions can work together to support shared climate goals at the municipal level.
